You can do it!!

You know who you are...this last joke is for you!

I'll stop now...

Math/ Sci

Tomorrow you have a ratio "check-in". While Humanities is priority, I would definitely go over some ratio word problems if you need a break from HUM. It will help you on your check-in.

In Science we covered Topics 1 and 2. Tomorrow we will cover the rest. Please show your adults your notes to check-in with them. Study a minimum of half an hour for Science tonight. Go over your notes in your journal. Write key words. Make visuals. Whatever you need to help you remember concepts, ideas, etc.

Here are the notes from today:

Humanities

Today we did some review and chatted about study habits and good ways to study. Please review your notes, use the search tool on the blog, and do not use the textbook unless you are really lost or need clarification on a specific concept or person. (use your notes....that is what will be on the exam).

Here are the notes from Chapter 15:

Good luck studying! You are almost there : )

Good luck studying : )

Japan Unit Review

You have a unit exam on Wednesday. Please make sure you are studying every night. Here is the review you were given today. It has been posted on D2L as well, if you lost it or need another copy.

Humanities

It is reflection time!

We are halfway through The Outsiders and it is time to stop and reflect.  Using the below as a framework, complete your next reflection:

Novel Study Reflections- Thinking about your thinking

Midway Point: Making and Changing Predictions
It is time to stop reading and review your initial predictions.  Were they correct? If so, which ones? Which ones were incorrect?
  1. Are you enjoying the book?  If so why? If not, why?
  2. Is the story what you were expecting?  Any surprises?
3. Text-to-Self Connections
A good text-to-self connection might sound like…
This reminds me of the time that I…
I know exactly how the character feels because when that happened to me…
·         Remember when…
·         Because I know about ______, I can understand _______.

4. Text-to-Text
A good text-to-text connection might sound like…
·         This character reminds me of the character in this book because…
·         The part reminds me of the book I read yesterday…
·         I think the book will end this way because in this other book…

5. Text-to-World
A good text-to-world connection might sound like…
·         This reminds me of something I heard on the news…
·         I think this has happened in history before…
·         It seems like this book happened a long time ago because…

·         This is the same problem we’re facing right now in Canada

WHAT DOES GRADE 8 WRITING LOOK LIKE, YOUR IDEAS ARE SUPPORTED WITH ACTUAL EXAMPLES FROM THE NOVEL, SENTENCES ARE COMPLETE, THERE ARE NO SPELLING ERRORS, ALL PROPER NOUNS AND STARTS TO SENTENCES ARE CAPITALIZED.

Reflection is due tomorrow!

Humanities- Novel Study!

We are reading THE OUTSIDERS by S.E. Hinton

Getting to know the author:

Homework:  Due tomorrow a paragraph using the following reflective questions as a guide.

Novel Study Reflections- Thinking about your thinking

Before Reading the BookPrepping yourself as a reader

In proper grade 8 writing, predict what you think that the book is going to be about.
  1. This may include whether or not you are excited to read it,
  2.  If you have heard anything about it (maybe from a sibling or friend who has already read it)
  3. Take some time to read the back of the book, look through the pages and check for illustrations, study the front cover.
  4.  Using the evidence from visual clues, what do you think it is about?
  5.   Think about whether the story is set in the past, present or future…..how do you know?   What evidence exists that support your prediction?
  6.  What’s the problem?  All stories have a problem or adventure….what do you think it will be in this story?

Please see the attached.  Miss Noullett started her brainstorming before writing a well written paragraph for tomorrow!
