Getting to know the author:

Homework:  Due tomorrow a paragraph using the following reflective questions as a guide.

Before Reading the Book:  Prepping yourself as a reader

In proper grade 8 writing, predict what you think that the book is going to be about. 

1. This may include whether or not you are excited to read it,
2.  If you have heard anything about it (maybe from a sibling or friend who has already read it) 
3. Take some time to read the back of the book, look through the pages and check for illustrations, study the front cover.
4.  Using the evidence from visual clues, what do you think it is about?
5.   Think about whether the story is set in the past, present or future…..how do you know?   What evidence exists that support your prediction?
6.  What’s the problem?  All stories have a problem or adventure….what do you think it will be in this story?
