Happy Thanksgiving

May you have a wonderful time this Thanksgiving, with friends and family. Enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving.
From
Miss Noullett, Mrs. Krushel, and Mrs. Boucher

Humanities

Today we explored Worldview through video (please see the attached assignment sheet for your video links).  All three videos were advertisements for the 2016 Summer Olympics however, each possessed a very different theme.

Miss Noullett created a Wordle will all of your initial reactions, reflections, emotions, and/or questions from the videos.  Please revisit each video for Tuesday's Humanities class; we will be allotting only 15 minutes to finish up your 'elbow buddy' chart paper questions.

Reminder: Time Capsules are due on Wednesday.

Wednesday, 5 October 2016

Humanities

Today we worked on our Time Capsule. We went through expectations, as well as what we are looking for. Here are the steps we went over:

1. Pick an item that represents your worldview relating to EACH worldview element. (So you will have 7 items in total for each element).

2. Explain why you chose this item to represent the worldview element.
- your writing must be highly descriptive
- Must be in paragraph form

3. Pick an object to store your items in. You can draw it or explain it.

4. Present to the class on Wednesday Oct 12.

Here is an example of what we expect:

Geography is incredibly important to me. I grew up by the ocean and this heavily influenced my worldview. If I were to put an item relating to geography in my time capsule, it would be a seashell, as to me, this represents the ocean. Living by the ocean affected my family, as my Dad was in the Navy. He would go away for long periods of time, sometimes 6-7 months, and I would miss him a lot. Lots of people we knew had jobs relating to the ocean, such as fishermen, and ship builders, and their whole life revolved around the ocean. Whenever I think of the ocean, I feel peace, but also fear, as there have been times where I have had some close calls when swimming in strong tides, and I learned the hard way that I need to respect the ocean. This seashell, representing the ocean, helps explain my worldview, in relation to geography.

TONIGHT: HDC Community Event- Everybody is Invited!

HDC is excited to have HOJA, an au Capella band with an amazing message about anti bullying and character perform for our students and parents on Thursday, October 13. HOJA will perform for all of our students and staff at 2:00pm in the main gym. Students will have an opportunity to bring their families to the evening performance at 6:00pm. This HDC community event is free for all of our families. Please see the attachment for details.

If you plan on attending the event we have organized a way for you to order dinner for your family before the concert begins. You can order dinner for those attending through the School Healthy Hunger website. Subway and OPA will be available for you to order from and delivered to the school for you to pick up and enjoy before the concert.

You will be able to click on the link below to order your dinners for our HDC Community Event.

We hope that you are able to attend this event with your whole family and enjoy some time meeting staff and other families at HDC. We look forward to seeing you at our Community Event.

Glenbow Field Trip

Just a few reminders for tomorrow:

Do not bring your backpack to the Glenbow. You can bring a small bag with your lunch in it - that is all.

Make sure you partner with someone who can take a photo with the phone/ipod, as your task is to take a picture of an object/exhibit that relates to ONE of the worldview elements.

Meet on the stage tomorrow morning instead of in homeroom.

Looking forward to our field trip : )

Math

Today we completed division stations. This work should be done for class on Wednesday. You have an integer exam coming up on Thursday Oct 13.

If you are not understanding/need more help with multiplying integers you could:

  1. Ask one of your teachers for help.
  2. Do some extra practice at home - IXL or Khan Academy
  3. Review questions in the textbook using Cougar Community on D2L.

Here are the stations from today:

Humanities

Today we were handed our quiz marks back. We went over expectations, and some trends we saw in the writing. There is always room for improvement - great first assessment!

We received a project that we are working on for the next week in Humanities. This is due Wednesday October 12, 2016. You will be presenting to the class.
